Communication is essential to promote the transformation to a more sustainable society and meet the challenges of climate change. In a first international special issue on sustainability communication, the editors Catrin Johansson, Jody Jahn and Wim Elving invite researchers to get more involved in sustainability communication.
– I hope that the special issue will inspire more communication researchers to get involved, and that communication competence is included as an important part of projects that drive sustainability work forward, says Catrin Johansson.

The special issue is an outcome of the International Sustainable Development Research Society (ISDRS) 27th Annual Digital Conference hosted by Mittuniversitetet in 2021. Communication plays a critical role in emphasizing urgency, increasing awareness, understanding and knowledge, building trust and engagement and implementing solutions for sustainable development. The special issue contains nine articles, theoretical as well as empirical, with new knowledge about sustainability communication.
